the Loose Parts Playground Program was established
to promote creativity, collaboration, and social-emotional learning.

A volunteer-led program started by two Mount Washington Elementary parents, Loose Parts provides students with creative materials to use during play times. Think old crates, plastic cones, sheets, disconnected keyboards and more!

Staffed by parent “play-workers,” this program ran successfully on the kindergarten yard from 2019-2020 and was credited with increasing collaboration on the playground and decreasing conflict and boredom. In the future, when it is safe for volunteers to return to campus, Friends of Mount Washington School hopes to expand Loose Parts onto the big-kid playground during recesses and in after-school hours.
